Revitalising Haydons Road with Indian Sandstone

As part of this urban enhancement project, Tectonix played an important role in the transformation of Haydons Road, Wimbledon, a bustling shopping thoroughfare known for its vibrant local businesses and high pedestrian traffic. Partnering with the London Borough of Merton and FM Conway, Tectonix supplied premium natural stone paving and kerbs, significantly elevating the visual appeal and functionality of the area’s streetscape.

To achieve a modern and sophisticated look while maintaining durability and practicality, Mira sawn and shot-blasted Indian sandstone was carefully selected for the pavement, complemented by the installation of Shanny granite kerbs. This dual-colour grey-brown sandstone proved to be an excellent alternative to traditional Yorkstone paving. It not only provided a cost-effective solution but also enhanced the streetscape with its refined aesthetics and high-performance characteristics.

The choice of Mira Indian sandstone was driven by its technical properties. Suitable for the demands of an urban environment, this sandstone boasts a robust composition with a shot-blasted surface, enhancing slip resistance—an essential feature for busy pedestrian areas. Additionally, its low water absorption and high flexural strength ensure longevity, reducing maintenance costs and making it an ideal choice for commercial applications.

The expert craftsmanship of FM Conway ensured seamless installation, bringing together design and functionality to create an inviting and contemporary public space.
